Variations and Designs
Sometimes, the standard 3 by 3 Rubik's cube can get boring and repetitive. So, lots of other companies decided to start making improvements on the Rubik's brand cubes 3 by 3 cubes and also completely new cube dimensions, such as 4 by 4 by 4 cubes and 11 by 11 by 11 cubes.
Improved Variations
Companies like DaYan Cube have gained most of their large amount of popularity from their improved versions of the standard 3 by 3 by 3 cube. Their 2 most popular cubes are the DaYan Zhanchi and the DaYan Guhong. Improvements include smoother and more fluid spins and rotations, adjustable tightness of the cube (which will affect the speed of the rotations) and also general turning and rotating speeds. These improvements allowed for very fast speedcubers to achieve world record times for the fastest solves.
Different Dimensions
As the number of layers or dimensions of a cube increase, the more difficult it is to keep the cube held together. Panagiotis Verdes, the founder of V-Cube, invented a method to make Rubik's cubes that could still behave normally with additional layers. He later patented the method and founded the company V-Cube, which still holds the patent and can therefore easily make higher dimension cubes, such as 7 by 7 by 7 cubes. V-Cube currently manufactures 2 by 2 by 2 cubes all the way to 11 by 11 by 11 cubes.
